MCIT Celebrates the Graduation of the First Cohort of the Overseas Internship Program

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of Qatari employees participating in the Overseas Internship Program. This milestone marks an important step in the MCIT’s ongoing efforts to enhance the skills and expertise of its workforce, preparing them to contribute effectively to the implementation of Digital Agenda 2030. The program was conducted in partnership with Google Cloud in Dublin, Ireland, focusing on advanced technology and digital innovation.

Starting in early September 2024, 16 Qatari employees from MCIT worked alongside Google Cloud headquarters for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in Dublin. This immersive experience enabled participants to gain in-depth knowledge in advanced digital domains, acquire hands-on experience, and explore the latest technologies and best practices. It also provided insights into planning strategies, risk management, and addressing potential challenges. The program covered specialized areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data security.

Mr. Sami Al Shammari, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT, stated: "We are proud to graduate the first cohort of the Overseas Internship Program in collaboration with Google Cloud. This program reflects our commitment to building a workforce capable of contributing to implementing the goals and initiatives of the Digital Agenda 2030, which aligns with the human development pillar of Qatar's National Vision 2030. By empowering our national workforce to benefit from outstanding practical experiences in leading global technology companies, their acquisition of knowledge and expertise will significantly enhance their readiness to support digital transformation efforts in Qatar."

The Overseas Internship Program represents a practical step towards developing the digital skills and experience of  MCIT’s employees, enabling them to transfer this knowledge back into their work environments. The program offers a unique learning experience where participants can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world projects based on artificial intelligence technologies. This approach contributes to enhancing their technical skills and fostering innovative solutions to improve work efficiency across the MCIT’s various departments.

The program participants shared their enthusiasm and commitment to completing this opportunity, viewing it as a significant milestone in their professional journey. Batoul Maher Algoul, Programmer at the Cloud Computing and Networks Department, said: "This is an exceptional opportunity to learn and grow under the guidance of global experts. The hands-on applications have significantly enhanced our professional capabilities, and I am eager to apply these new skills to support digital transformation in my workplace."

Mohammed Ahmad Alsayed, Network Researcher at the Cloud Computing and Networks Department, added: "This experience has opened new horizons, allowing me to explore advanced technologies in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. We are learning how to leverage these technologies to develop innovative and efficient solutions, which I believe will greatly enhance government operations at the Ministry."

Salem Mohamed Al-Ansari, Information Security Researcher at the Cloud Computing and Networks Department, emphasized the program's value, stating: "Working closely with Google Cloud experts and applying technologies practically has been an invaluable opportunity. Gaining new skills and expertise in advanced technologies and AI will enable us to effectively support Qatar’s digital transformation efforts."

The Overseas Internship Program is part of the MCIT’s efforts to build a generation of IT specialists and is a crucial step in enhancing the skills of national talents in advanced technologies to contribute to achieving the goals of the Digital Agenda 2030.
