His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, met His Excellency Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, Secretary General's Envoy on Technology, and his accompanying delegation, as part of his official visit to the State of Qatar at the Ministry’s headquarters. This visit is in line with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) efforts to communicate with the United Nations to learn about global experiences and expertise, intending to develop the telecommunications and information technology sector in the country.

The visit of the Secretary General's Envoy on Technology to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology reflects the importance of international cooperation in the promotion of technology for sustainable development, as the State of Qatar shares with the United Nations a common vision for utilizing technology to achieve sustainable development goals.

During the visit, several topics of mutual interest in the field of communications and information technology were discussed, including the importance of digital infrastructure, the role of technology in promoting innovation, the importance of digital transformation for society, and developing innovative solutions to address the challenges facing the ICT sector in the country.

The MCIT presented to the Secretary General's Envoy on Technology the plans for developing Qatar Digital Government and its achievements in previous years and provided an overview of how the MCIT supports and nurtures digital startups through its programs. Additionally, discussions were held on the successful technical trials carried out by MCIT during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the mechanisms for supporting and developing digital service and platform plans by international standards.

The visit is part of the Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology mission to enhance Sustainable Development Goals via technology. The official visit aims to learn about the developments and challenges facing the telecommunications and information technology sector in the country and to frame future cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United Nations.
