The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology joins the 42 sessions General Conference
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) joined the 42nd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in the French capital, Paris, on the 13th and 14th of November. Several delegations from member states, representatives of international organizations and civil society organizations, as well as other stakeholders participated in the Conference.
The agenda included discussions on the strategy of regulating digital platforms to develop media and empower stakeholders to keep pace with the digital landscape. The MCIT presented a consolidating report on the implementation by member states of the 2015 Recommendation concerning the preservation of, and access to, documentary heritage, including in digital form. Additionally, a consolidating report on the implementation by member states of the 2003 Recommendation concerning the promotion and use of multilingualism and universal access to cyberspace. The Ministry also presented a report on the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
During its presence in the conference, the MCIT focused on connecting its achievements in digital transformation with the key initiatives and objectives discussed in the UNESCO session. The Ministry further highlighted its role within UNESCO by showcasing successfully implemented digital projects and initiatives, such as the SMART Qatar Digital Inclusion Strategy, Digital Skills Development Strategy, Innovation Hub Development Strategy, Studio 5 Program, and other programs that empower digital innovation and promote the digital transformation of government sectors to achieve sustainable development goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Throughout the event, the ministry’s delegation engaged in pivotal discussions with the Communication and Information (CI) Commission, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing comprehensive access to information and knowledge. The Conference served as a vital platform for the effective exchange of ideas and experiences that shape policies and strategies to bridge digital gaps, address challenges, reduce digital disparities, enhance sector efficiency and transparency, respond to citizens’ needs, and expand innovations that facilitate national and international communication.
The participation of the MCIT reflects its strong commitment to supporting the strategy adopted by UNESCO in empowering technology, digital inclusion, and the dissemination of innovative digital technologies as essential tools to achieve sustainable development goals. It also underscores the Ministry’s dedication to promoting cultural understanding and international cooperation.
