MCIT Invites all Entities in Qatar to Participate in WSIS PRIZES 2023

Doha - Qatar

The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), announced its participation in the 12th edition of the contest of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2023, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Within the framework of this participation, MCIT invited all government and private entities, international and regional institutions, civil society, and academia to participate in the competition by submitting projects that harness the power of information and communications technology (ICT) to enhance the sustainable development process.

The State of Qatar participates in many pioneering projects that have an impact on the country’s path towards sustainability. The participation comes within the framework of the State of Qatar's interest to expand and strengthen its participation in international forums and events, develop its presence on the global level, and due to its belief in the importance of joint work in exchanging international experiences. This competition is considered to be the only global platform for identifying and presenting success stories in implementing the 18 Action Lines endorsed by the WSIS outlined in the Geneva Plan of Action, to evaluate projects that leverage the power of ICT to advance sustainable development.

Government and private entities, companies, and stakeholders can participate by completing the submission form on the competition’s website www.wsis.org/prizes, comprising 18 categories. No more than one project from the same entity is allowed to be submitted per category.

All projects should be submitted in English only and should cover work that is completed or at the end of a major phase to provide evidence of results and its social, economic, cultural, and environmental impact. The deadline for the projects’ submission phase is 7 December 2022. The WSIS Prizes 2023 represent exceptional international recognition of WSIS Stakeholders as Winners and Champions for their excellence in supporting the implementation of WSIS outcomes, WSIS Action Lines, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The winning projects will be officially announced during the WSIS Forum 2023 from 13 to 17 March 2023. The 18 Winners and 72 Champions will be honored and details of the winning projects will be showcased in the WSIS Stocktaking: Success Stories 2023 publication, while all submitted descriptions of projects and activities will be reflected in the WSIS Stocktaking Report 2023. The WSIS Prize 2023 Ceremony is a tribute to the qualified and winning projects, distinguished during the competition stages and qualified for the final stages.
