MCIT and IPA Qatar signed a MoU with Amazon Web Services to Support the Digital Sector of Qatar

Doha - 

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (IPA Qatar) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amazon Web Services, the global leader in cloud computing, on the sidelines of the Qatar Economic Forum 2022, held in Doha powered by Bloomberg.

The memorandum was signed by HE Mrs. Reem Mohammed Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), by the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, Sheikh Ali Bin Alwaleed Al-Thani, the Chief Executive Officer of IPA Qatar, and by Amazon Web Services Mr. Faisal Mian, Head of Public Sector for the Middle East. 

The memorandum of understanding signed by the three parties will support the rapid development of Qatar's technology sector by refining the country's technological talents through the Amazon Web Services Academy, which offers free cloud computing and skills development programs focusing on Machine Learning, AI, and Cloud Computing.

The three entities will launch initiatives to develop Start-upsthrough Amazon Web Services programs and exchange of best practices.

Commenting on the MoU, HE Mrs. Reem Mohamed Al-Mansoori said, "The Ministry of communications and information technology, we are pleased to lead the efforts of the state of Qatar towards digital transformation and rapid technological development."

"The memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Investment Promotion Agency with one of the world's leading companies in the field of technology, the digital sector, and smart solutions comes within the framework of the commitment to developing this sector in the country by benefiting from international experiences and expertise," she added.

Sheikh Ali Bin Alwaleed Al-Thani, CEO of IPA Qatar, said: “We are pleased to be part of this strategic cooperation, which represents a major stepping stone in our journey to bolster the digital transformation in Qatar and unlock the untapped growth potential of the technology and AI sectors. I am confident that this collaboration will nurture new tech talents and further develop the start-up ecosystem in Qatar."

The MoU is part of cooperation with the IPA, which works to achieve the goals of the State of Qatar in expanding opportunities for international companies looking to establish their presence in Qatar and the region or expand their access to it by providing the digital and physical infrastructure ready for the future, and a supportive business environment, with the availability of young and educated talent, which together constitute the most enabling and business-friendly environment in the region.
